  Overview

The SAT math sections are designed to test the math topics that a typical student would have learned by his or her junior year of high school. These include arithmetic, algebra and functions, geometry, and a few other miscellaneous concepts. And though the questions on the test will require knowledge of these topics, you should always remember that the SAT is not actually testing your mathematical abilities, but rather your ability on one particular day to take the test that the College Board has devised. Hence, a mediocre score on the math portion of the test does not necessarily mean that you are a mediocre math student, more likely it means that you should practice taking the test a bit more. In other words, the SAT is a skill, like swimming or riding a bike, and one which you can improve through practice.
